My Millennium trek which included Mount Kenya and Kilimanjaro was a very special experience which I shall always remember. It was surperbly organised and made some great friends. I would certainly go with EWP again if they have the right itinerary.

Congratulations to EWP! Under the guidance of Andrew Wielochowski it put together a trek I shall never forget. We spent six days in the Mt. Kenya range followed by six days on Mt. Kilimanjaro. At the stroke of midnight on December 31st, 1999 we stood at the summit of Kilimanjaro to see in the new millennium. The planning and execution of the trek couldn’t have been better. Aside from being stunning in its own right Mt. Kenya acclimatized us appropriately for Kili. We took less traveled routes which were particularly beautiful and known only by those with a deep understanding of these mountains. Andrew, by the way, has put together the definitive maps of both Mt. Kenya and Mt. Kilimanjaro. Experience makes a difference! For the entire time there wasn’t a single organizational hitch—from the flight down to Nairobi to the excellent hotels, the many necessary shuttles, the crossing from Kenya into Tanzania and back, not to mention each day on the mountain—all this proceeded like clockwork. I can’t be more satisfied with the trek. In fact, it gave far more than I ever expected. EWP did a first-rate, professional job.

Had a superb climb of Kilimanjaro, using the Umbwe route. The whole arrangement, made by EWP using Zara tours, was extremely well planned. They booked hotel in Nairobi, shuttle bus to Moshi, the climb with everything and shuttlebus back to Nairobi airport. We where very pleased with it all, and would not hesitate to use EWP again (hopefully in near future Peak Lenin) for our next adventure.

I highly recommend the Virgin Summits Expeditions to the Muzkol Region of the Eastern Pamirs for those wishing to climb 6000 meter peaks in complete solitude. On Andrew's third trip to the area in August, 1998 we managed 3 previously unclimbed peaks all over 5500 meters and did so in mostly stable sunny weather. Andrew has these trips 'wired' and provides tremendous climbing opportunities especially for those on restricted time and monetary budgets.

I joined the Millennium trip to Mount Kenya and Kilimanjaro organised by EWP in association with Zara Tours and Riverside. I enjoyed the whole trip immensely, it was superbly planned and organised. The company of Andrew Wielochowski himself with his wide knowledge of the area enhanced the trip greatly. That I actually got to the summits was due in great part to the help and encouragement of the Guides on both mountains. While not on trek we stayed at two excellent hotels - the Fairview in Nairobi and the Springlands near Moshi. The add-on safari I took with Zara was just as good as all that had gone before, giving as wide a view of the wildlife as possible in the short time available. Both driver and cook could not have done more to make the trip pleasant.

The guides (Bongo and Jackson) were excellent, the food was great and everything was well organized and well done. We had a fantastic experience and, best of all we all reached Uruhu peak.

We have been on two vacations with Wilderness Safaris. Both have provided extremely memorable trips.
The first was to Zimbabwe and was centred around Lake Kariba. A variety of adventures put us into close proximity with a variety of wildlife. The trip was well organised and without any administrative problems. I wholeheartedly recommend the walking trip into the Matusadonna Park and the canoeing trip down the Zambezi.
The second holiday was a self drive, 3 week trip into Namibia. Dramatic scenery, amazing wildlife around Etosha and fabulous weather made the whole trip wonderful.
A big thank you to Ron Linnett of Wilderness Safaris who planned the whole thing. He was alwys willing to discuss options and make whatever changes to the itinerary we wanted.
Totally recommended, we will undoubtedly use Wilderness Safaris again next time we go to Africa.

Dear Andrew,

at the middle of January we have made a trek in Kenya and Tanzania.

Until yet we have send any kind of answer to you, that was not a good thing.

But with this notice we search to thank you for all the organization and tha accomodation we have found.
It was really very well organized and the people we have meet was exceptional.

In the following points I will described the different hot points we have lived in Africa:

1. With AirFrance we have had about 2 hours delay, but at our arrive at the airport two people were at the door attending our arrival, they have said to us that in Kenya there is no problems about delay; they can work this day or the day after, without problems ... another live philosophy...
2. The hospitality at Fairview Hotel was really a model hospitality. To much eated...
3. By the transfer from Fairview Hotel to Springlands Hotel in Tanzania we have seen the changes of the vegetation and of the people meeted. For this transfer two bus-companies were payed from you!! The company that we have meet at the ariport and another company which driver was comming to us, at the Fairview Hotel, with my name.
4. At Springlands Hotel we have had all the commodities we have asked and more, more ...
5. The ascent to the Uhuru Peak was very well organized. All thing was arranged. But, really, the table, the chairs and the tablecloth were too, too much. We are people from the Swiss Alps and on our mountains there is nobody that organized an excursion, a trek, in such a manner. The organization of Zara Adventures was a top.
The guide was perfect too. Big boss Ritchy has proved a very good knowledge of the mountain and of the altitude, his attitude on the management of the porters was perfect too.
Two persons of us have been fieber and, unfortunately, they have been accompanied to the hotel.
6. After the ascent on Uhuru Peak and the successive descent, we have made the transfer to Chogoria in Kenya. By this transport the company has lost my baggage with the photos of Kili, the papers that confirmed our arrival at the summit and some other things. This was the only bad event that was appened during the two weeks.
7. The ascent to the Lenana, Nelion and Batian with the group of Dixon guide was amazing!! The change of the vegetation, the rocks and the general view was a dream.
Dixon was not so 'pooly-pooly' as the Big boss Ritchy guide on Kili and for the majority of us was nearly better (after the acclimatization on Kili).
8. The group of porters on Mt. Kenya was a bit more professional than on M. Kili.
9. The day which we have climbed the Nelion and Batian Points was the very best day of all the trek. Really, an amazing journey on the rhyolite rocks of Mt. Kenya. Nobody was on the route save us! An ineffaceable record in our minds...
10. Together Dixon, I have freeclimbed the south route for Batian, just to about 5'000 m.a.s.. Dixon is not only a good guide for the simply route but he could be a very good technical guide too.
11. Dixon, 'Mpishi' and other two guys have had the pacience to stay with us during the last day in Nairobi. This was extremely well appreciated from all the people of our group.

As attachment I trasmit you the article that I have wrote for the alpinistic review of our federation (that's an italian version - word version 2000).

I take the occasion to ask you if is possible to organize (for august 2001) a trek/expedition to the Peak Kommunist (ev. Peak Korjenevskoy, too).

Sorry for the bad english and best regards,

floriano

Staying at Mrs. Simpson's was a definite highlight of our time in Kenya - after months in dry, arid places and after a long journey, going over the peak of the lane to the Guest House and seeing our first glimpse of the sea was something I shall never forget. After searching around and speaking to several different travel companies we chose Wilderness and River safaris to organise our honeymoon trip to Africa. It was great to explore options and get a good feel for what was available, they took the time to fine tune our trip to be exactly what we wanted. While away all the arrangements went perfectly, we were dropped off and picked up as planned which meant we did not have to worry. The camps we jointly chose were great and I hope we can arrange another trip with Ron and the team soon.

A superb tailor made holiday was put together for us at 6 weeks notice! All aspects exceeded our expectations: the organisation, the quality of pre departure information, the guides, the variety and quantity of game and birds, the variety of the various locations. Ron instinctively knew what we were looking for and what 'package' of locations and events to put together for us. We intend to use the company again ( we hope) and would recommend the company to anyone who is looking for a high quality, value for money experience in Africa.

Dear Ron, 12-12-00
We had an excellent time and my father had what can only be described as the trip of a lifetime.
Our Chobe, Savuti, Moremi safari was out of this world, our guide Spoke’s knowledge, enthusiasm and experience really added to our enjoyment. We saw everything that we could want to see and more, I will not bore you with the many magical experiences we enjoyed.
The Okavango Delta trip was a little more basic but still very enjoyable.
The lodge, Russell and his staff were very helpful and made our overnight stays in Victoria Falls extremely pleasant. The same can be said about our time at the luxury Elephant Sands Safari Lodge where we had a large number of superb experiences including White Rhino that got us all the big 5.
Last and not least the canoeing on the Zambezi was excellent the small rapids were just right for my father who we even persuaded to swim through one of them.
I managed 206 different bird species during the whole trip which was pretty impressive as far as I was concerned.
Thanks very much for organising a wonderful trip for us.

Well, what an amazing experience we have had!
I can remember other holiday anything like it, our journey exceeded all expectations.
So we take this opportunity of thanking you for all your care advise and trouble.
As you know it was our 40th. wedding anniversary celebration: our trip was a marvellous way of
marking the occasion. We were amazed to be able to live so close to the ground and so near to the wildlife and yet to enjoy some of the best food – fresh asparagus and strawberries. Nor was comfort sacrificed: we enjoyed luxuries like hot showers and flush toilets, even in the bush.
We have come back with about a dozen exposed films - well over 300 photos, many of them quite excellent. Our friends are on standby for total boredom!
Once again thank you for a superb experience, we certainly know who to approach when we undertake our next safari.
Reverent John Pierce.

Zainab,
I just wanted to let you know how much we appreciated your excellent service and hospitality on the Mountain and at your hotel. I especially wanted to let you know how professional our guide Wilson was in his dealings with us as clients. We were treated very well and our comfort and safety was always
his first consideration. All of the assistant guides (David and Filbert)were also courteous and professional as were the porters.
Our driver on the Tarangire Safari (Limo I think is how you spell his name?) was excellent, taking us to all the right places and allowing us to see up close several lionesses with their cubs, as well as many other species. He managed to fit a lot of wildlife viewing into a small amount of time and then returned us to the Airport in time for our outbound flight.
Your staff at the Springlands were also first class and I will recommend your services to my many customers at the store that I work in.

I would like to thank ZARA for the well-organized Kilimanjaro climbing tour
I attended 2 weeks ago.
We were in Augusts team and started the climb on the 24th of August and
reached the summit on the 28th of August. I had a fabulous time, everything
went perfect. Guide, assistant guides, cook and porters did a great job.
A special thank you goes out to Emanuel, an assistant guide in Augusts
team. Emanuel is a great guy, very accessible and friendly, his English is
very good. He works like a horse, I think nothing can make him even a bit
tired.
Emanuel helped me tremendously on the summit day. I was suffering from
moderate altitude sickness but wanted to get to Uhuru really badly. He was
at my side helping me for the last couple of hours, very dedicated and full
of patience. Without him I couldn't have made it!
If it was up to me I would promote him from Assistant Guide to Guide
immediately, he deserves it! Emanuel is a fantastic guy to have supporting
a team, but I think he will even do better leading one.

Although late since we summitted Kilimanjaro on august 4th, we would like to comment on this site as we still do almost daily to friends here at home. We did the three day Mount Meru tour and the six day Machame route Kili tour, both with Joseph or Photo as our guide.
All in all it was a fantastic experience during which all our expectations were exceeded all the time. It was tougher, longer, dustier, very much colder(summit nights) but also times over more rewarding and emotionally satisfying than we could ever expect! Joseph was fantastic as our personal guide, helper, motivator, caretaker and definitely also as the manager of our crew! We would recommend him and the team he chooses to anyone!
Our two hottest tips for equally unexperienced (as we were) high altitude hikers? Do not only bring diarrea stoppers but also an antibiotics description. Brenda made it because she could get one from a group member! Also, bring more layers than you ever thought necessary not containing one thread of cotton! During summit night the "Kili shuffle pace" is so slow that your movement will not keep you warm otherwise.
After The Meru /Kili adventure Driver guide Hamsa Tok us to the four parks. Hamsa has an admirable knowledge of wildlife, sees leopard and birds in trees from a miles distance and is an excellent driver.
Zaineb, Zara's Director is the engine behind it all! She is a great Manager, very friendly, nothing is impossible and all gets doen within minutes by herself or her staff who is clearly motivated to work hard for her!
Summerizing: If you want to do what we did right the first time, do not shop around and get Zara to organise it for you. If you want more detail from us? Contact me by Email.

My wife and I climbed Kili via the Marangu route in March 2004, with a South African couple Paul and Fran that we met at the hotel.
The organisation by Zara was excellent, from arriving at the excellent Springlands Hotel in Moshi and throughout the trip.
Our guide, Faustine-be-Chombo taught us the meaning of Pole Pole and it really did work.
Despite warnings from friends who had made the trek we suffered none of the expected problems ie the runs, headaches or sickness.
The food on the trek was excellently prepared and served and we didn't touch any of the food we took with us "just in case".
All in all it was certainly a trip to remember and we have the tee shirt to prove it!

I had the pleasure of trekking up Mt Kilimanjaro with Zara tours in Jan 2004. Felix and his crew were fantastic ! They took great care of us - the hike was very safe, the food was excellent, and the staff really made it an all 'round great experience. (very challenging) We did the Shira route, and Felix stayed with and encouraged those of us who made it to the Uhuru Peak the whole way. The Springlands was an oasis. The staff was great, the accomodations were better than we expected, and the pool was just what we needed after 6 days on the mountain ! Definately make a point of taking Felix out for a drink at the Saltzberg if you are in Moshi !

My partner and I have just returned to the Uk after using Zara Travel who arranged our treking trip of Kilimanjaro and onward flights to Zanzibar. The whole set of arrangements were first class - with the collection from the airport, hotel facilities, food, treking arrangements everything went without a problem. The presentation and service provided by the hotel staff was excellent. Treking guide, assistants and porters were 1st class and help with onward arrangements after the visit worked very well. I would recommend Zara services to anyone visting the region - they are excellent.
